HOLLYWOOD FIGHT NIGHT RETURNS TO FLORENTINE GARDENS SEPTEMBER 20TH

August 30, 2012 - After a sold out premiere that brought back memories of Tinseltown's legendary boxing shows of the 1940s and 1950s, Kahren Harutyunyan's Art of Boxing Promotions in association with Bash Boxing return to the Legendary Florentine Gardens for their second installment of Hollywood Fight Night on Thursday, September 20, 2012.

Local Hollywood welterweight wunderkind Zachary "Kid Yamaka" Wohlman (4-0, 1KO) will be back as one of the featured attractions of Hollywood Fight Night 2.  "Kid Yamaka," the nickname given by trainers Freddie Roach and Eric Brown as a reference to Wohlman's Jewish heritage, electrified the capacity crowd at the last Hollywood Fight Night with a thrilling, unanimous decision win over tough and rugged Joe Martell.  The victory helped earn Wohlman the cover story in LA WEEKLY, the premiere arts and entertainment newspaper in Los Angeles.

The early favorite for Fight Of The Night candidate will be a Special Female Coast-To-Coast 6 round battle between Hollywood's Holly "Little Bear" Lawson (4-2, 1KO) and New York's Sarah "The Knockout" Kuhn (5-2-1, 1KO).  Don't let their good looks fool you....both fighters are ranked Top 10 in the welterweight division and the winner hopes to catapult her way to a World Title bout and build on the popularity gained from Women's Boxing in the 2012 London Olympics.

Hollywood Fight Night 2 will also feature the return of towering Los Angeles welterweight Terrell "Tyger" Williams (5-0, 4KOs).  One of the pride and joys of the Shadeed Suluki boxing stable, Williams made easy work of journeyman Clifford McPherson with a flattening1st round knockout on the last Hollywood Fight Night Show.  Team Suluki will have a busy night as two of their Eastern European prospects, Russian welterweight Alexander Filichkin (10-0, 3 KOs) and Armenian lightweight Vahe Sarahunyan (5-0) will make their Hollwyood Fight Night debuts.

Also making their Hollywood Fight Night debuts will two undefeated welterweights from Robert Garcia's Boxing Club, Carlos Rodriguez (4-0, 1KO) and Neil Arellano (1-0), slick middleweight prospect Louis Rose (4-0), and LA Matadors Cruiserweight Vyacheslav Shabranskyy (Pro Debut, 5-2-1, 1KO in World Series of Boxing).

Tickets to HOLLYWOOD FIGHT NIGHT can be purchased online by going to www.hollywoodfightnight.com or by calling (626) 388-8888. HOLLYWOOD FIGHT NIGHT takes place on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Florentine Gardens, located at 5955 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood, California.

Doors Open at 7:00pm, First Bout at 7:15pm sharp.  Tickets to HOLLYWOOD FIGHT NIGHT start at $45.  All bouts are subject to change.

CANELO ALVAREZ, TRAINER CHEPO REYNOSO & PROMOTER OSCAR DE LA HOYA LOS ANGELES WORKOUT QUOTES

Canelo Defends WBC Super Welterweight Title Against Josesito Lopez
In Main Event Of “Knockout Kings” On Mexican Independence Day Weekend,
Sat., Sept. 15, From MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Live On SHOWTIME ®

LOS ANGELES (Aug. 29, 2012) –- Incredibly popular Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez participated in a spirited open media workout Wednesday at TSB-44 in Santa Monica, Calif. as he prepares to defend his WBC Super Welterweight World Championship against upset-minded breakout star Josesito Lopez in the main event of “Knockout Kings’’ on Mexican Independence Day weekend, Saturday, Sept. 15, live on SHOWTIME ® (9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT, delayed on the West Coast) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

In front of a jam-packed gym working with trainer Chepo Reynoso and co-trainer Eddy Reynoso, the undefeated champion hit the heavy bags, performed calisthenic exercises, shadowboxed and sparred for five rounds during an intense one-hour workout.

Here’s what Canelo, his trainer, and Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, said Wednesday:

CANELO ALVAREZ
“Every fight there’s more and more pressure and more and more attention on me.  The way I deal with it is to take it one fight at a time.  Keep training and trying to get bigger every day.  I want to learn and I’m still learning.

“I don’t want to say I’m the best, but I am a world champion and I want to fight the best.  I’d love to fight guys like Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, but first I have to get past Josesito.

“This is going to be a tough fight and a great fight for the fans.  Josesito has a great chin.  I feel I’ll have to work him little by little and throw my best combinations to hurt him.

“He’s my opponent and he’s definitely earned the opportunity for this fight.  He’s durable, he’s dangerous and he’s coming to win.  He’s coming to win and to take my belt.

“I’m not even thinking of the $100,000 knockout bonus.  I just want to win convincingly for all my fans.  I’m dedicating this fight to them.

“My sole focus is on Sept. 15.  Fighting on Mexican Independence Day weekend is a very big responsibility for me.

“Working in Santa Monica at this gym has been great.  Everything has gone perfectly.  I’ve had good sparring and I’ve been working with guys that are similar in size and style to Josesito.

“I’m relaxed and I feel no pressure.  It’s different for me now than it used to be.  I don’t have as much private time to myself; people know me and recognize me, but I fight for the people, my fans.

“I’m looking for a big win so that fans can celebrate happily and properly on Mexican Independence Day weekend.  This is a very important date.  I hope the fans come out and support us.  This is a big night and I’m really looking forward to the fight.”

CHEPO REYNOSO
“This is a very important fight against a very durable and determined opponent.  People don’t believe in Lopez, but they didn’t believe in him before he fought Victor Ortiz either.

“There are no weak opponents.  We know that Josesito is capable of causing damage.  That’s why we have had 10 weeks of preparation for this fight.  We don’t want the same thing to happen to Canelo that happened to Ortiz.

“This has been a great camp from start to finish.  There haven’t been any problems.  Canelo is very focused.  He has tunnel vision.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA
“This is an amazing card, one that easily could have been on pay-per-view.  The fact SHOWTIME stepped up to the plate is great for the sport and great for the fans.  We are all very excited about it.

“The millions of fans watching live on SHOWTIME will see a great night of non-stop action and knockouts.  The $100,000 bonus we’re giving to the top knockout winner only gives more motivation to all the fighters.  Actually, this bonus is so enticing I’m thinking about maybe coming back.

“You know Jhonny Gonzalez is thinking the bonus the way he fights.  Ponce De Leon, Canelo, it’s hard to pick who’s going to be the eventual winner.  Every fighter on this card possesses tremendous punching power and they can all lay down the hammer and it will be “goodnight” for their opponents when they do.

“Every fight from top to bottom is going to be exciting.  I expect them all to end by knockout.  They’re all amazing matchups – the matchmaking was crucial to this card and I feel we did a great job.

“Fans are in for a real treat – a night of great action and knockouts.  The fighters are motivated and ready to fight.”

“Knockout Kings,” headlined by Canelo Alvarez defending his WBC Super Welterweight World Championship against breakout star Josesito Lopez, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions in association with Goossen Tutor Promotions and Thompson Boxing Promotions and sponsored by Corona , DeWalt Tools and AT&T.  In the co-featured attractions, WBC Featherweight World Champion Jhonny Gonzalez defends his crown against former World Champion Daniel Ponce De Leon in fight presented in association with Promociones Del Pueblo, former World Champion Marcos Maidana faces perennial contender Jesus Soto Karass in a fight presented in association with Universum Box-Promotion and Leo Santa Cruz defends his IBF Bantamweight World Championship against former Two-Time World Champion Eric Morel.  The Saturday, Sept. 15 quadruple-header, packed with Mexican pride and power, will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be televised live on SHOWTIME Saturday, Sept. 15 at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

ANGELO DUNDEE’S PERSONAL BOXING MEMORABILIA, INCLUDING MUHAMMAD ALI’S GLOVES FROM 1964 LISTON FIGHT AND “THE FIGHT OF THE CENTURY,” FEATURED IN SCP AUCTIONS’ NOVEMBER 2012 AUCTION

Laguna Niguel, Calif.  (July 30, 2012) – SCP Auctions is proud to announce The Angelo Dundee Estate Collection of boxing memorabilia for its November 2012 online auction. In a Hall of Fame career in professional boxing that began in 1952, Angelo Dundee gained acclaim as a brilliant cornerman, whether healing cuts, inspiring his fighters to battle on when they seemed to be reeling, or adjusting strategy between rounds to counter an opponent’s style. The renowned trainer was a guiding force to the two most celebrated fighters of his era, Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard, and 15 other world champions.

The collection features hundreds of items spanning the breadth of Dundee’s extraordinary career and includes some of the most historically important Muhammad Ali memorabilia ever offered to the public. Among the collection highlights are several significant pairs of Muhammad Ali fight-worn gloves including Ali’s (then Cassius Clay) gloves from his February 25, 1964 bout against Sonny Liston and his gloves from his March 8, 1971 bout against Joe Frazier (Ali-Frazier I). These two pairs of gloves represent Ali’s two most legendary fights and have been dubbed by SCP Auctions officials as “the most valuable and historically significant boxing artifacts in the world.”

“These gloves represent boxing’s crown jewels,” said Dan Imler, SCP Auctions managing director, “and rank among the most significant sports memorabilia artifacts ever offered publicly. Muhammad Ali is a cultural icon beloved throughout the world. These are the ultimate tools of Ali’s trade from his most legendary bouts, used by him to forge his undisputed status as ‘The Greatest of All Time’.”

Clay’s 1964 bout with Liston was among the most anticipated, watched and controversial fights in sports history. The brash 22-year-old Clay entered the fight as a seven-to-one underdog against the seemingly unstoppable Liston. Clay’s improbable sixth-round TKO brought him his first heavyweight title. His jubilant and defiant celebration whereby Clay repeatedly taunts ringside detractors with his famous proclamations "I am the greatest!" and "I shook up the world!" has been rebroadcast countless times during the ensuing decades.

Seven years later, Muhammad Ali met Joe Frazier in the first of a trilogy of battles that may be the best series of contests between two combatants in the history of boxing. Ali, then 31-0, had been stripped of his heavyweight titles when, as Cassius Clay, he refused to be inducted into the military after being drafted for the Vietnam War. Frazier, at 26-0, had captured the title of undisputed heavyweight champion in 1970 with a technical knockout of Jimmy Ellis. Billed as “The Fight of The Century,” it was a brutal 15-round battle that ended with a decision in favor of Frazier. The epic struggle is considered by many as the greatest boxing match of all time. It was a practice of Dundee’s to mark Ali’s fight gloves with identifying notations on the interior either just prior to or after each fight to record their provenance. His period notations and signature appear inside each glove.

Jim Dundee, the late Angelo’s son, plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from the November 2012 sale to the Muhammad Ali Foundation.

“Through the sale of this collection, I look forward to fulfilling my father’s wish that necessary medical care be provided and funded for my sister, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis,” said Dundee.

Other significant artifacts from The Angelo Dundee Estate Collection of Boxing Memorabilia include the following:

•           Cassius Clay’s fight-worn gloves from 1962 bout vs. Johnny Logan

•           Muhammad Ali’s fight-worn gloves from 1966 bout vs. George Chuvalo

•           Muhammad Ali’s fight-worn gloves from 1970 bout vs. Oscar Bonavena

•           Muhammad Ali’s fight-worn gloves from 1972 bout vs. Floyd Patterson

•           Muhammad Ali’s c.1964 5th Street Gym training-worn robe

•           Muhammad Ali’s Everlast white satin fight-worn robe

•           Angelo Dundee’s 1958 boxing trainer's license

•           Muhammad Ali’s 1963 boxing license

•           Muhammad Ali’s mouthpiece molds and fight-worn mouthpiece from last fight vs. Trevor Berbick

•           Sugar Ray Leonard’s fight-worn gloves from 1980 Leonard vs. Roberto Durán II (no más) bout
